You don't have to work anymore

2005

DVD A/V 7'30''

Made for a show about immaterial labor. The idea was derived from the general concept that work is done in exchange for money. It consists of four sections with how easily we can spend or earn the money while a performer demonstrates magic tricks with bills and coins. Due to the missing parts, however, it is merely a fake illustration of meaningless sentences. Here, one of the most immaterial types of work - performance - is changed into a classical sense of labor, dealing with money.

The background music is from the silent film ‘City Light’ by Charlie Chaplin, who explored the meaning of labor in the early 1900s.

You don't have to work anymore
